The perfect fusion is Club de Golf Terramar, a golf course right in front of the sea. Every year more than six thousand visitors come to play here, so it’s a great club to add to the list of your next golf breaks.
Located on the coast just 42km south of Barcelona, protected by the Garraf hills, Sitges enjoys a gentle microclimate that allows you to play golf at any time of the year. It is the nearest golf club to Barcelona’s airport, and just five minutes from the centre of Sitges. This golf course is always in excellent condition, with the spirit of a links thanks to the beautiful views of the Mediterranean.
Over 90 years of history and renovation
Founded in 1927, it is the seventh oldest golf course in Spain, and the second in Catalonia. Some of the most renowned designers in the world have taken part in its design, from F.H. Hawtree, to Manuel Piñero, Jim Fazio and Enrique Saenger, and the latest comprehensive redesign was carried out by Mackenzie & Ebert Golf Course Architects. The result is an impressive combination of 18 holes, par 71 (5,893 metres from white bars), bathed in the gentle sea breeze, and the sun, some 300 days a year. A pleasure not to be missed on a golf holiday.
In constant renovation, Terramar has recently completed one of its most ambitious projects to improve the golf course, both in terms of layout and ecology and sustainability. The celebration of its 90 years of history in 2017, and the organization of the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open (the Ladies European Tour event that it hosted in 2017, 2018 and 2019) means that its facilities have risen in category, year by year. The club is perfect for international golfers, whether recreational or competitive, looking to book tee times on this beautiful course in a unique setting facing the sea.
An 18 hole course with all services
Here you have holes that are pretty, flat and wide, and others that are surrounded by lakes and trees which hide demanding precision challenges, and smallish, uneven greens. To start at the 1st hole, you have to go through the ‘palomar’ (dovecote), one of the emblems of the club, which is more than one hundred years old and was transferred to its current location in 1990. Honouring the original design from 1927, the renovated 3rd hole (par 3), considered the best 3rd hole in Catalonia, has become famous for its typical links aesthetic. From here you hit the ball towards the sea, with the wind against you, to the high green which is protected by two bunkers, from where you enjoy a sensational panoramic view of the Mediterranean, overlooking the coast of Sitges. After visiting the 4th hole, which runs parallel to the seashore just 10 metres away, the golfer plays surrounded by lush pine trees, bunkers and lakes, accompanied by the charm of Can Pere Pau, an old building in the centre of the inner part of the course.
The Master Plan of the club has made the latest changes in this zone, make it more playable and fun. With 6.036 metres the course has recovered its par 72 condition, adding a par 3, 11th hole; a par 4, 12th hole; and a par 5, 13th hole; the construction of a new par 4, 10th hole will complete the course, with a huge lake in between the second shot and the green, giving a new personality to the entire inland area.
The 15th hole deserves a special mention as it is considered the most difficult on the course, a long and narrow par 5 that requires more precision the closer you get to the green. To finish in front of the clubhouse, the 18th hole maintains maximum tension until the last putt, on a multi-level green.
